Operation Walk Boston sends a team of volunteer physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other medical personnel to the Dominican Republic (DR) to operate on patients with severe arthritis of the hips and knees who otherwise could not afford the surgery. Funded through Brigham and Women’s Hospital and led by Drs. Thomas Thornhill and Richard Scott, the program enables patients to walk again and gives volunteer medical staff the opportunity to train DR healthcare providers in surgical and rehabilitative techniques.
By supporting Operation Walk, you help to build in-country expertise, expand clinical outcome studies, provide free joint replacement surgeries for patients, and defray the costs of their pharmacy items, dry goods, walkers, intravenous supplies, and other basic needs. With your contribution, we will continue to make a difference for an underserved population by improving medical knowledge and care, increasing access to orthopedic surgery, and restoring patients’ lives.
