Step Up for Stepping Strong Employee Wellness Initiative

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is Step Up for Stepping Strong and what does it support?
A: Step Up for Stepping Strong is a monthlong wellness initiative that supports innovative trauma research and patient care through The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Established by Boston Marathon bombing survivors, The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation fuels trauma research and care to benefit civilians and military personnel worldwide who have suffered from the devastation of traumatic injuries and events.

Q: When does the program take place?
A: Employee registration is open April 1–30, and the steps challenge is May 1–31.

Q: Who can participate?
A: Anyone. All companies can make a philanthropic gift to create a team and every employee can join their company team and participate in the steps challenge. Employees choose their daily steps goal (4K, 8K, 12K), so it doesn’t matter if you take 5,000 or 20,000 steps a day—everyone can participate. The consistent pursuit of a daily goal is the key health benefit, and walking is a low-impact exercise that burns calories while also improving circulation, blood pressure, muscle definition, and overall mood.

Q: Is there a cost for employees to participate?
A: The program is FREE for employees and by participating you can win great prizes for staying active and hitting your daily steps goal.

Q: What are some of the incentives to participate?
A:  The program provides employees many incentives to participate, such as:

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods coupon just for registering
  • Weekly prize drawings from all active participants for a Fitbit Blaze smart watch
  • Certificate of participation to hang in your workspace
  • Grand prize for the company team whose members hit their daily goal the most
  • Weekly access to health and wellness content from BWH physicians
  • Pride in your company for supporting trauma patients and critical medical research

For companies, the program provides a user-friendly way to motivate healthy and active employee behavior through philanthropy, including:

  • Internal promotion of social responsibility and philanthropy
  • Increase employee camaraderie and morale
  • Company pride in supporting an underfunded area that affects millions and could one day impact the lives of employees or their loved one

Q: How do I enroll my company in the program?

Q: How do I connect my device? – please make sure these webpages open in a separate tab
A: Find your device from selection of options and follow the directions to get everything set up.

If you have any issues connecting your device, please email Stridekick support at stridekick.team@stridekick.mail.intercom.io.

Q: How does syncing work?
A: Stridekick grabs your data automatically after you sync your device, but it can’t pull data directly from your device so you have to sync it!

To sync, open up your device app on your phone. We recommend syncing several times a day to ensure your steps are counted for each challenge. There is a slight delay, so it may take up to 10 minutes for your data to reach Stridekick.

There is also a 72-hour grace period that allows participants to sync after each day in a challenge.

*If you do not see your activity after several sync attempts or you forgot to sync for over 72 hours, reach out to Stridekick for assistance by using the help icon on the bottom right of the challenge screen or at stridekick.team@stridekick.mail.intercom.io
.
Q: How will my information be displayed in the Step Up for Stepping Strong challenge?
A: Other challenge participants will only be able to see the username you create when setting up your Stridekick account.

A: Yes! Stridekick is free to use for individuals and small groups. You can create your own challenges, join public challenges created by other Stridekick users, and invite your friends and coworkers to join along with you.
