Gift Strengthens Emergency Medicine, Physician Training

“I believe emergency trauma centers will shape medicine in this country,” says Gloria Nagy. “When you’re having a heart attack, or your child has a severe allergic reaction, the only place that matters is the emergency room.”

For many years, Nagy has been a passionate advocate for strengthening emergency care in her Rhode Island community and beyond. In 2016, she and her husband, Richard Saul Wurman, gave $100,000 through her family’s foundation for renovations to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“It’s wonderful to see the BWH team perfecting the art of caring for patients and sharing that with the world,” says Nagy, who first learned about BWH’s emergency medicine program through a fundraising letter. “The additions to the ER will make it as state-of-the-art as it can be, and bring us all into the future of medicine.”

Also, in honor of her long time physician, Raymond Reilly, MD, she contributed $20,000 to the Raymond J. Reilly, MD, Innovation Fund. Her generosity will help Reilly—a BWH surgeon for 47 years—continue to mentor and guide rising leaders in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

“Dr. Reilly is an extraordinary and rare kind of physician,” Nagy says. “This gift is my way of showing my appreciation and respect for him and his work.”
