For more than 55 runners—Gillian's classmates and fellow dancers, as well as other friends and family—the 2014 5K was an expression of their continued love and support for Gillian and the Stepping Strong Fund that honors her. Here are some thoughts from last year's 5K team.
"I'm running this 5K in support of my best friend. After seeing the incredible care that Gillian received at the Brigham, I jumped at the opportunity to help raise money for the Stepping Strong Fund." —Lillian Pierce
"I'll never be able to adequately express my immense gratitude to the BWH staff for their bravery, grace, and dedication to getting Gillian back on her feet." —Caroline Weber
"I'm running to help raise money and awareness for crucial research and programs at BWH. The 5K will rally us toward a vital goal, while allowing us to honor all those injured last year." —Hank Winton
"I have always looked up to Gillian, and was so inspired by her strength and resilience. It’s been an honor to work with classmates to build a team of runners from Gillian’s high school." —Ellie Gozigian
