“When I was diagnosed with MS in 2003 at the age of 32, I was terrified I would have to choose between having children and continuing MS treatments. When I sought the advice of Dr. Maria Houtchens, a neurologist at the Brigham, she empowered me, saying, ‘You can’t stop living your life because you have MS.’ Under her watchful eye, I paused and resumed medications for years, in the hopes of healthy pregnancies. Today, I have four healthy children, and my disease has taken a benign course with little progression. To show my appreciation for Dr. Houtchens’ exceptional care, I hosted the ‘Love Story’ dinner at my home to raise funds for MS research at the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at the Brigham. My hope is one day families won’t have to experience the same tough decisions that my family and I did.” — Michelle LeMay
