On Sunday, October 1, thousands of runners gathered in Portland, Maine to run the 2017 Maine Marathon, including a team of 135 Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) runners who ran the full marathon, half marathon, and marathon relay to benefit the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at BWH. Collectively, the group raised more than $193,000, logged 1,087 miles, and celebrated a fundraising milestone by surpassing their $500,000 fundraising goal set three years ago to help combat Alzheimer’s disease.

Bill Marr, son of John and Josephine Marr, said “It’s wonderful to see this event grow in size and excitement. It started three years ago as a kind of a somber day, but now is a joyous occasion because progress is being made every day thanks to the research team at BWH.”

After the race, runners and their guests enjoyed a celebration at the home of John and Josephine Marr in Falmouth, ME. Check out the photo gallery of both the race and after party.

A special thank you to F. L. Putnam Investment Management Company for sponsoring this year’s Marr Fund Team.
