Sunil Eappen, MD, MBA, Named Interim President of Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Sunil “Sunny” Eappen, MD, MBA, senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer (CMO) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was appointed the Brigham’s interim president, effective March 1.

Eappen is a widely respected leader at the Brigham and throughout the Mass General Brigham system. Known for his exceptional ability to build collaborative partnerships, Eappen has been integral to advancing the Brigham and Mass General Brigham’s mission, leading numerous efforts focused on improving clinical care and the patient experience. He has served as the interim leader for Brigham equity efforts since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and has been the Brigham representative for Mass General Brigham United Against Racism. Eappen previously held multiple clinical and administrative leadership positions within Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Prior to joining the Brigham, he served as CMO at Mass Eye and Ear.

With his vast experience and knowledge of the Brigham’s academic vision, commitment to clinical excellence, focus on science and education, and service to our community, Eappen is ideally suited to lead the Brigham as interim president. His appointment will ensure a seamless leadership transition while Anne Klibanski, MD, president and CEO of Mass General Brigham, and Brigham Board Chair John Fish lead a formal search for a permanent president.
