Taiclets contribute $5 million for new Faulkner patient pavilion

Keenly aware that hospitals nationwide are facing space constraints amid high demand for patient care, longtime Brigham benefactors Jim and Carol Taiclet recently made a powerful new commitment to invest in the campus expansion project at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.
The Taiclets’ $5 million gift supports the creation of a patient pavilion, the inpatient hub of a new five-story building currently under construction. Comprising three floors, the space will include 78 private inpatient rooms, three nurses’ stations, and three family lounges overlooking the scenic Arnold Arboretum. Opening in a phased approach in 2025, it will increase the hospital’s bed capacity by 59%. To celebrate the couple’s generosity, the hospital will name the Taiclet Family Pavilion in their honor.
Carol and I strongly believe in the incredible work taking place across the Mass General Brigham system every day and are thrilled to make this gift to help provide the infrastructure so greatly needed to carry out this caregiving mission.
“This contribution will significantly boost our ability to improve the care experience for patients in our community,” says Kevin Giordano, president of Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, chief operating officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and senior vice president of operations for Mass General Brigham. “With the completion of the Taiclet Family Pavilion, we’ll improve access to care and expand capacity in our inpatient units, including for those awaiting admission from our emergency departments. We’re grateful for the Taiclets’ commitment to the communities we serve and to our staff.”

The Taiclets are proponents of leveraging philanthropy to fund projects with big impact. For example, their past support enabled the Brigham to acquire an MRI-guided linear accelerator machine, a cutting-edge technology that improves treatment of cancer. Since 2007, Jim has been a member of the Brigham’s Board of Trustees, and more recently, in 2022, he joined the Mass General Brigham Board of Directors.
“Having strong healthcare is essential for people to thrive,” says Jim. “Carol and I strongly believe in the incredible work taking place across the Mass General Brigham system every day and are thrilled to make this gift to help provide the infrastructure so greatly needed to carry out this caregiving mission at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and beyond.”
