When is race day?

In-person race day is Sunday, October 4, 2026. Virtual participants can pick a day, time, activity, and location that works for them October 2–4, 2026. More information will be provided to participants leading up to race day.

How do I register for the Marr Fund team?

Step 1: Determine your participation level.

  • You have the option to race in the marathon or half marathon as an individual, start your own relay team as a team captain, or join a relay team as a teammate. Decide which distance is best for you — there are no wrong answers!
  • Once you’ve determined your participation level, you’re ready to register.

Step 2: Register with the Maine Marathon to secure your bib.

Please ensure you use the correct link below based on your participation level. Registering through the wrong link may cause you to be charged incorrectly. All participants must register with the Maine Marathon event to secure a bib for race day.

Step 3: Register with the Marr Fund team and create your fundraising page.

  • All participants must register on GoFundMe Pro to officially join the Marr Fund team and start fundraising. Complete this step no later than September 3 to confirm your shirt size for the race.

Have questions while you’re registering? Please contact mainemarathon@mgb.org for assistance.

How long are the races?

You have four options to participate in the Maine Marathon with the Marr Fund team:

All fitness levels, for both runners and walkers, are welcome to participate!

I can’t attend in person. Is there another option?

Yes! You can participate virtually from any location October 2–4. Register on GoFundMe Pro to officially join the Marr Fund team. While virtual participants do not need a Maine Marathon bib, we will send you a Marr Fund team shirt and ask you to send us a photo of your virtual race moment.

What is the fundraising requirement?

By joining, each person on the Marr Fund team agrees to their individual fundraising requirement. The requirement is $150 for in-person participants and $100 for virtual participants. If you don’t complete your fundraising requirement by October 1, 2026, at 6 am EST, the credit card on file will be charged the remaining balance.

Am I responsible for any other costs or fees outside of fundraising?

Yes. In-person teammates are responsible for the Maine Marathon registration fee that is dependent on your participation level. All fees are separate from individual fundraising requirements.

What we support

John Marr and his dog, Baloo

John Marr and his children launched the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund to fuel innovative research collaborations to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

Named for John and his beloved wife, Josephine, the fund is inspired by Josephine’s courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The Marr family — together with our world-renowned researchers — are focused on finding a way to stop Alzheimer’s disease altogether.
