Sean McDonough Celebrity Golf Classic

Thank you for joining us at the Sean McDonough Celebrity Golf Classic

Sean McDonough and a host of sports and entertainment personalities came together for two special days of events to benefit cardiac amyloidosis research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and across Mass General Brigham.

Annual support from the Sean McDonough Celebrity Golf Classic has played a vital role in the growth and global influence of the Brigham’s Cardiac Amyloidosis Program, now part of the Mass General Brigham Heart and Vascular Institute. Since 2018, the Sean McDonough Celebrity Golf Classic has raised more than $4M to support this important work in the fight against cardiac amyloidosis. Thank you for furthering our efforts and being part of a special community that is raising awareness and creating better outcomes for cardiac amyloidosis patients here in Boston and around the world.

Golf Tournament

The following day, each foursome was paired with a celebrity golfer at the prestigious Boston Golf Club in Hingham, MA, for a golf tournament and reception.

About cardiac amyloidosis

Inspiration

Sean’s father, legendary Boston Globe columnist Will McDonough, died suddenly of cardiac amyloidosis in 2003. This special celebrity charity event supports cardiac amyloidosis research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Impact of Philanthropy

At the Brigham and now part of the Mass General Brigham Heart and Vascular Institute, the Cardiac Amyloidosis Program fills a significant void in the diagnosis and treatment of systemic amyloidosis. The program aims to better understand cardiac amyloidosis in order to inform and improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for patients living with the disease.

Cardiac amyloidosis is caused by deposits of abnormal proteins, or amyloid, in the heart. It causes the heart to become stiff, making it difficult to work properly. Although this is still a relatively rare disease, there is growing evidence that it may be more common than once thought.

Fueled by philanthropy, the team is mentoring the next generation while making great strides in diagnosing and treating cardiac amyloidosis. With advances in technology, imaging techniques, and clinical expertise, the team can now diagnose the disease earlier in its progression. With earlier diagnoses, improved therapies, and more widespread recognition, an increasing number of patients can manage cardiac amyloidosis as a chronic condition instead of a life-threatening disease.
