Remembering Estrellita Karsh

Brigham and Women’s Hospital mourns the loss of Estrellita Karsh, a longtime supporter and friend of the hospital, who passed away on March 28, at the age of 95.

Estrellita Karsh

Born Estelle Nachbar, the accomplished medical writer and editor married the late Yousuf Karsh, a renowned portrait photographer, in 1962. She championed his prolific career throughout his life and, following his passing in 2002, donated many of his and others’ priceless works so that patients, staff, and visitors might find some moments of calm reflection while on the Brigham’s campus.

Estrellita was a valued volunteer leader, providing guidance for the hospital on the President’s Advisory Board and the Women’s Health Advisory Board. She also created close bonds with the Brigham’s nursing staff and provided ongoing philanthropy to support their programs. She was celebrated as a member of The Brigham Luminary Society for her generosity in supporting the hospital’s mission during her lifetime.

The Brigham mourns Estrellita’s passing and celebrates her remarkable life. You can read Estrellita’s full obituary here.
