Wyetts commit $50 million bequest—largest in Brigham history

Carol N. and Allen S Wyett

With a nearly 200-year history of clinical innovations, research discoveries, and medical training, the Brigham was founded by visionary benefactors whose generosity and foresight created a strong foundation for the hospital of today—an international healthcare and research powerhouse welcoming more than 1 million patient visits each year.

Now, a couple whose philanthropy to the Brigham spans nearly 30 years is helping to imagine and build the next frontier in medicine. Carol N. Wyett made a $50 million bequest intention from her and her late husband, Allen S Wyett, to fund state-of-the-art facilities that meet the ever-evolving needs of patients, staff, and scientists across the sprawling Brigham campus. This commitment is a monumental capstone to Carol and Allen’s legacy of giving, adding their names among the Brigham’s most exceptional benefactors.

This bequest is a thank you to the Brigham community of caregivers and researchers for all they do for patients and families.

CAROL N. WYETT

“Allen and I always wanted to make sure the Brigham’s wonderful environment of discovery, care, and education continues and gets even stronger for generations to come.”

David F. M. Brown, MD, president of Academic Medical Centers for Mass General Brigham, says, “We’re profoundly grateful to Carol and Allen. With the largest bequest in the Brigham’s history, the Wyetts will fuel leading-edge research and patient care facilities that shape medicine for years to come.”

To recognize this transformative gift, the hospital will name the main campus entrance in the Wyetts’ honor, serving as a prominent display of gratitude.

Over time, the Wyetts supported many areas of the hospital, with a special place in their hearts for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, directed for decades by Joel Katz, MD, the Brigham’s former vice chair for education.

“The Wyetts empowered healthcare leaders in training for years, and today, their tremendous commitment extends even further for capital needs,” says Giles W.L. Boland, MD, president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization, executive vice president of Mass General Brigham, and the Cook Distinguished Professor of Radiology. “Their forward-thinking gift will benefit so many patients and families.”

Carol says, “We entrust the Brigham to use this funding to make significant, meaningful investments in the campus. Our wish has been to help the Brigham reach its maximum potential: to help give people worldwide a better quality of life. That’s what it’s always been about for us.”
