Announcing our new presidents

David F.M. Brown, MD

Dear friends,

I am excited to share the news that David F.M. Brown, MD, formerly the president of Massachusetts General Hospital, will now serve in an expanded role as president, Academic Medical Centers, Mass General Brigham (MGB)—providing leadership for both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Mass General.

This appointment builds on Mass General Brigham’s vision for creating a world-class integrated academic medical system that puts patients at the center. In his new role, Dr. Brown will work with clinical leaders across both hospitals to identify and improve opportunities for collaboration in clinical care, research, and medical education. And by leveraging our collective strengths, we will strive to have an even greater impact on our patients and community.

As Dr. Brown shared, “I see the opportunity to leverage, in service of our patients, the legacy and enormous strengths of our two founding member hospitals, Mass General and the Brigham, both true leaders in the practice and innovation of medicine. I am inspired by the work ahead and the opportunity to partner with clinicians, staff, and supporters across both great institutions.”

Dr. Brown is a seasoned veteran of the MGB family with a distinguished career at Mass General that spans more than three decades—starting with his medical training. Prior to being appointed president of the hospital in 2021, he served as chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for eight years.

With his deep roots in academic medicine and strong commitment to our shared mission, Dr. Brown understands the power of philanthropy and the valued, crucial role our donor community plays in our success. I am looking forward to working with him and introducing you to him in the weeks and months ahead.

I am also looking forward to our continued partnership with Giles W.L. Boland, MD, who will serve as president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and continue to serve as president of the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization. Similarly, Marcela G. del Carmen, MD, MPH, will serve as president of Mass General and president of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization.

With change comes new opportunity, and I am excited about the future with our new leadership. As always, thank you for your partnership and for all you do and will continue to do for the Brigham.

All my best,
